Reflecting on my Digital Identity

Googling Myself

When I searched my name on google, there were only two hits which is considered fairly few and this is due to several factors. In my opinion, one of the main reason is because my name, Kabir, is used as a religious reference in the Sikh religion. There are many prophets and renowned people who contributed to the holy book in the Sikh religion who share the same name as me which have strong historical background. However, I am happy that I have only a few hits as I prefer to keep a low profile of myself. I am happy being known only by a small circle of people but, people who matter to me. One of the benefits of having a lot of hits in the future on google is that it helps it having a good portfolio. Therefore, people can recognise me and my qualifications easily resulting in a high opportunity for me to get myself into a preferred field to boost my career. On the other hand, the internet can be wild and the danger of having many hits on google is that it easier to be scammed which means personal data may not be that personal and secured anymore. Google-presence may help me to get a job after my degree by displaying my portfolio and profile so that it makes it easier for companies to notice me and my qualifications.

Facebook

The information that is available on my public profile are brief but not very personal details of me. For example, my birthday, previous schools that I have studied at, and a brief biography of me. My photos are not visible at all but my interests are visible. I am pretty neutral about how my profile is now. The information that are public to others are not very discrete information but then again part of me is happy as people who genuinely want to know can see my interests. I would be happy if a potential employer visits my page as my interests are closely related to my career interests and I avoid sharing useless articles or posts.
